
Give thanks for the excellent transition effort by President Bush, Chief of Staff Bolten and members of both the Bush and Obama transition teams as they continue to work for a smooth transfer of power, through to Tuesday morning. Pray for each step to work well, and pray for God’s blessing on the Obama team as they continue preparations and training.
Pray for President Elect Barack Obama and Michelle Obama, Vice President Elect Joe Biden and Jill Biden, as they now step up to serve our nation, taking leadership at a crucial moment in our national life. As the two men take the oath of office, pray that the Spirit of God will be there, reminding them of His indwelling power and grace for every situation.
As hundreds of thousands of citizens flock to Washington, D.C. to take part in the historic Inaugural events, pray for the safety and protection of each one, asking God to cover every part of the Inauguration with His care. Pray for great blessing, joy and civility for all who participate. Pray for the smooth operation of all aspects, including public transportation, security, parades, balls and more.
Give thanks for the legacy and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. whose life will be celebrated on Monday with a special day of service to others, called for by President Elect Obama. Pray for the success of the first National Day of Community Service, asking that God will glorify Himself as citizens serve those in need.
Pray for Rev. Rick Warren as he prays at the formal Inauguration ceremony, asking that God will be honored in his efforts and many will consider the love and power of God in our nation. Pray also for the National Prayer Service that will be held on Tuesday, January 21 in the National Cathedral, asking that God will be honored and glorified and that Americans will commit to pray faithfully for President Elect Obama and his administration.
Pray for confirmation hearings taking place on Capitol Hill, asking God to guide each subcommittee charged with this great responsibility into His wisdom and insight. Pray for each cabinet appointee as they make rounds of members of Congress seeking to build strong relationships that will serve our nation.
Pray for members of our military, serving faithfully in difficult situations and conditions, asking God to protect and safeguard every one. Pray for the 5,000+ troops who will work to keep our nation’s capital safe throughout next week’s Inauguration festivities, giving thanks for their great sacrifice and dedication.
